Installing the Software

The following instructions will install the required files on your computer to use Mathematica. This procedure only needs to be performed once, but it must be done on every individual computer on which you wish to use Mathematica.

  1. Connect to the repository for the installation files from Box at https://unh.box.com/v/unh-academic-apps. This folder is accessible to all UNH account holders, but you may have to login with your UNH username and password to gain access.
  2. Open the folder for the Mathematica software.
  3. Open the folder for the version and operating system you would like to install.
  4. You will see an archive for the software. In this case, it will be a .zip archive file. Download this by clicking on the item and then clicking on the Download button that appears in the middle of the browser window. Be sure to Download the .zip archive to your computer. Do not Open it from the location.
  5. Once the download has finished, locate the .zip archive. Typically it is in the Downloads folder in your user folder on the computer. Right-click on the .zip archive and select Extract All. Once extracted, you should see the installation files to continue the process.
  6. Double-click on Mathematica_12.0.0_WIN_DM.exe. The setup program will automatically detect whether you are using a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system and will instal the appropriate version.
  7. Proceed through the installer accepting the default options.
  8. When the installer is finished, launch the Mathematica application by selecting its icon from your Start Menu.
  9. You will be prompted with a Wolfram Product Activation Dialog. Click the Other ways to activate button at the bottom.
  10. Click the item named Connect to a network license server.
  11. Enter the Server name as academic.unh.edu and click the Activate button.
  12. Review and accept the license agreement by clicking on the checkbox and click the OK button.

Using Mathematica

Because Mathematica must check out a license from the UNH license server each time it runs, you must be either on the UNH campus on a wired Ethernet connection or using the UNH-Secure wireless network, or you must be connected to the UNH VPN service if using the software from off campus.

Once you have completed the installation and activation, you can run Mathematica by using the shortcuts in the Start Menu.
