Note: The "UNH-Public" network does not allow Windows file sharing (SMB/CIFS) connections. You must be on a wired Ethernet connection for this to work, or you must use the UNH VPN or "UNH-Secure", if you are on wireless.

If you are installing from off-campus, you must use the UNH VPN to be able to access the installation files.

Installing Office 2016 will not remove older version of Office that you have on your Mac, and you can continue to keep using the older versions as needed, but if you use Outlook, then you should plan to convert completely to the new version and stop using the old version to avoid possible issues with access and storage of your e-mail and calendaring information.

  1. In the Finder, select Connect to Server... from the Go menu.
  2. Enter the following URL and click the Connect button:
    smb://academic.unh.edu/office$
  3. Login with your AD credentials.
    Enter your your username prefixed by AD\ (e.g. AD\djb1) as the Name: field and your AD password in the Password: field.
  4. When the Office$ window appears, open the Office 2016 folder then the Mac folder it contains.
  5. Double-click the Office_Mac_Standard_2016.ISO disk image file to mount it on your computer.
  6. Run the Microsoft_Office_2016_Volume_Installer.pkg package from the disk image by double-clicking on it
  7. Walk through the setup program. It is recommended that you accept the defaults. You will be prompted for an Administrator username and password at some point during the installation process.
  8. The first time you use one of the Office applications and periodically there after, the Microsoft AutoUpdate tool will run. Please install updates that it reports are needed.

The Office 2016 disk image and the connection to the academic.unh.edu server can be umounted when finished.
